Project Overview

Sunrunner is a social networking concept that tracks direct sunlight, designed for those who are indoors most of the day.

It's all about the Sun

Many of us miss those peak hours of sunlight, especially at home. The sun glistens through your home windows around 3-5pm with no one but your cat at home to enjoy it. Even just 10–20 minutes of sunlight a day can significantly support brain health by boosting serotonin for mood and focus, regulating your circadian rhythm for better sleep and mental clarity, and improving overall cognitive energy and emotional stability.

Sunrunner translates this science into real-world utility, mapping locations by the exact windows of time they receive direct sunlight.

Last Direct Light ≠ Sunset

The key distinction between this app and the Weather app is that this app prioritizes direct, sun-to-skin contact.

Sticking to modern conventions, I was inspired by Apple’s sunset chart in their Weather app. It was something I personally used often whenever I wanted to get an idea of when the sun would set.

With this sun chart, it is the exact same concept with one difference: it also highlights when an area becomes shaded (often from trees, high hills, etc.) and may not be a spot worth the user’s time.
